Employees getting paid for eight hours of volunteering for charity are not entitled to overtime pay for the work, a federal District Court in North Carolina has affirmed. The Court has affirmed a decision by a Magistrate Judge who concluded that the program was not work covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Several former employees of Lowe’s Home Centers filed suit and requested class action status seeking overtime pay for employees who participated in Lowe’s “Give Back Time” program.
