Court cuts fees for Supreme Court win
How much does it cost in legal fees and expenses to prosecute a case to the U.S. Supreme Court? The Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia (MO) has asked to recover legal fees and expenses of $891,610 incurred in winning its challenge to the Missouri state Scrap Tire Program, which denied its application for a grant to resurface its playground solely because it was a religious institution. The Supreme Court last year overturned the trial court and Court of Appeals decisions and held that the church should be able to apply because the rule violated the “Free Exercise” clause of the Constitution.
