Recently I tried to hire someone to pass out flyers for our organization and a member of our board said it is illegal because of our 501(c) status. We are talking $30 per job. Is that true?
I can’t think of any federal tax reason why you can’t pay someone to assist you in spreading the word about the organization. You pay the postal service if you mail newsletters or charitable gift solicitations. You pay an internet service provider for emailing newsletters. I don't see any difference from a tax point of view in paying an individual for a different type of delivery service.
