Organization can’t sue without counsel

A nonprofit organization seeking to sue in federal court to overturn the state court denial of tax-exempt status has been denied the opportunity to proceed with the case when represented by its non-lawyer president, and not legal counsel. A federal District Court in Florida has dismissed the case when the organization failed to retain counsel to handle the matter. The Kermanj Foundation/Bio-Medica and Genetic Research Foundation filed its complaint by and through its president. After a motion to dismiss was filed against the Foundation, it obtained an attorney who entered an appearance on its behalf.
