Court allows lesbian to sue for sex discrimination
Although Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act does not prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, a federal District Court in Iowa has allowed a lesbian former director of human resources to sue her health center employer for sex discrimination and retaliation when she claimed she was subjected to a hostile and pervasive atmosphere of discrimination and harassment “based on [her] sex/sexual orientation.” The employee alleged that she was subjected to unwanted and unwelcomed sexual comments, sexual questions, sexual conversations, sexual emails, sexual texts, and sexual jokes, including a list of 20 incidents in her complaint.
